Doing the will of God: The Father

Let us examine when Jesus says: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).

What does Jesus mean by “…doeth the will of my Father…”?

Firstly, when Jesus was here on earth and doing his Father’s business, he was asked by his disciples, “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” (John 6:28).

“Jesus answered and said unto them, ‘This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent’” (John 6:29).

“Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8).

What does Jesus mean “…find faith on the earth?”

James, the brother of Jesus explained when he asked, “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:14, 17).

Jesus explains in detail what it means to have faith with WORKS

in outlining the events when he comes on the Day of Judgment on the Last Day, saying:

“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left” (Matthew 25:31-33).

“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

[FOR I WAS AN HUNGRED, AND YE GAVE ME MEAT: I WAS THIRSTY, AND YE GAVE ME DRINK: I WAS A STRANGER, AND YE TOOK ME IN: NAKED, AND YE CLOTHED ME: I WAS SICK, AND YE VISITED ME: I WAS IN PRISON, AND YE CAME UNTO ME]” (Matthew 25:34-36).

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not” (Matthew 25:41-43).

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal” (Mathew 25:46).
