Service of God vs ‘lip service’:
Jesus, during his time here spoke these words
which echo in our preset time, saying: “This people draweth nigh unto me with
their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men”
(Matthew 15:8–9).
James, the brother of Jesus very distinctly
shed light on this fact when he said: “But be ye doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22).
We must not pay ‘lip service’ to God in the
form of religious doctrines but, must let every word of God be engrafted into
our hearts because Jesus also says: “It is written, that man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4).
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is
from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and
superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which
is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving your own selves” (James 1:17, 21-22).
