Sin:
It has been remarked: “All my sins are
covered by the blood of Jesus Christ”.
God indeed gave his only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ to be the propitiation for the sins of the world (John 3:16-18) (1 John 1:5-7,
2:1-3).
Now, here is where there is a great misunderstanding
and misrepresentation, and that is, no matter what sins are committed they are
covered under the blood of Jesus Christ.
What then? Could we just go out and commit
fornication or adultery; steal or kill; or so on? God forbid.
The Apostle Paul clearly explained said: “For
by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift
of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“What then? shall we sin, because we are not
under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of
sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:15-16).
The Holy Scriptures very clearly says: “For
if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth,
there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26).
Let us bring into rememberance, when the
scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus to stone her to death
because of adultery. Jesus stooped down and wrote with his finger on the ground
and said to them, “‘He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a
stone at her” (John 8:7). He stooped down again and wrote again, and one by one
they left leaving Jesus and the woman. Jesus then asked her: “Woman, where are
those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” (John 8:10).
“She said, ‘No man, Lord.’ ‘And Jesus said
unto her, ‘Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more’” (John 8:3-11).
Jesus gave the woman his gift of grace and
let her go.
Now, for those among us who believe that they
can continue to sin because they are under the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
they are encouraged to pay attention to the words “…Go and sin no more.”
“For
the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
