Good Friday: Jesus died on the cross.
“And when the sixth hour was come, there was
darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’ which is,
being interpreted, ‘My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?’ And Jesus cried
with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent
in twain from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over
against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, ‘Truly
this man was the Son of God”’ (Mark 15:33-34. 38-39).
Jesus was crucified along with two thieves. It was customary after a crucifixion to break the legs; however, “when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs; but, one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water” (John 19:33–34).

“And he that saw it bare record and his
record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe” (John
19:35).
This
record of blood and water which came out of the pierced side of Jesus is
significant as spoken of by John when he asked, “Who is he that overcometh the
world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came
by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and is
truth” (1 John 5:5–6).
