Beware of false prophets
Anyone in a church today calling a priest,
preacher or of any other title father must cease doing so because Jesus expressly
told his disciples saying: “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one
is your Father, which is in heaven” (Matthew 23:9). Let us be reminded of our
Lord’s Prayer: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matthew
6:9).
Jesus also warns saying: “Beware of false
prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening
wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or
figs of thistles?” (Matthew 7:15–16).
“For such are false apostles, deceitful
workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel;
for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no
great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;
whose end shall be according to their works” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).
“He that burneth incense, as if he blessed an
idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their
abominations” (Isaiah 66:3).
