NEED versus Want.
How
often have we heard someone say: I want a new house; I want a new car; I want new
clothes; I want more to eat and so on.
Do
you need a new house? Do you need a new car? Do you need new clothes? Do you
really need to eat more food?
Jesus
says: “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not
in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).
“And
why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they
grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, [THAT EVEN
SOLOMON IN ALL HIS GLORY WAS NOT ARRAYED LIKE ONE OF THESE]” (Matthew 6:28-29).
“The
words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities,
saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:1-2).
Jesus
continues, says: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world,
and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
(Mark 8:36-37).
“Wherefore,
if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast
into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink?
or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” (Matthew 6:30-31).
“Behold
the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into
barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than
they?” (Matthew 6:26).
“Take
therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the
things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. But seek ye
first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be
added unto you” (Matthew 6:34, 33).
“Giving
thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the
which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful” (Colossians 3:15).
