E T E R N A L REWARDS versus worldly awards.
This
time of the year in this world there is a preoccupation with awards shows: red carpet
fashion hits and misses or best and worse dress; winners and losers; highs and
lows; iconic, trending and viral moments and the list goes on, and on.
Given
the fact that there is so much suffering, starvation and sorrow by countless
people in this world where over one billion people live on the edge of poverty,
words cannot begin to describe such childishness or silliness or foolishness.
“For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1 Corinthians 3:19).
“The
thought of foolishness is sin:” (Proverbs 24:9).
Words
spoken by King David, “…the sweet psalmist in Israel” (2 Samuel 23:1):
“Behold,
these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches”
(Psalm 73:11).
“When
I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; Until I went into the
sanctuary of God; then understood I their end” (Psalm 73:16-17).
“For
I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked” (Psalm
73:3).
“For,
lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that
go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put
my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works” (Psalm 73:27-28).
“For
the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall
perish” (Psalm 1:6).
“Wait
on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land:
when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. Wait on the LORD: be of good
courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalms
37:34, 27:14).
“The
LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is
good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the
LORD” (Lamentations 3:25-26).
Now,
therefore, as the only way to get the things that are eternal is through Jesus
Christ who died for us; for this purpose then we should live unto him and not
unto ourselves (2 Corinthians 5:15).
“Giving
thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
