Word of GOD or world of vanity?
We live in a world where the blockbuster movies of the
day are based on children’s comic books; movie, music sports and other
celebrities are worshipped as gods; the word mega is used as a prefix to
symbolize a pinnacle of success: mega billionaire, mega yacht, mega church and
so on; awards shows with an emphasis on fashion hits and misses; world records
in just about everything; and the list goes on.
“Vanity of
vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 12:8).
“Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is
an enemy of God” (James 4:4).
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God”
(1 Corinthians 3:19).
“The thought of foolishness is sin:” (Proverbs 24:9).
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in
the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world
passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth
forever” (1 John 2:15–17).
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).
“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read”
(Isaiah 34:16).
Jesus says: “It is written, that man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4).
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall
not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).
“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted [WORD], which is able to
[SAVE YOUR SOULS]” (James 1:21).
“Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that
passeth away” (Psalm 144:4).
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word
of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8).
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).
